Alexandra’s Autumn style tips

Long summer days may be a thing of the past but that doesn’t mean you have to scrap all colour from your wardrobe.  No need to go from white to black in one clean swoop either.  Easy does it!

Here are my top tips to transition from summer to autumn seamlessly.

Merino Knitwear:

Go for earthy autumnal tones of olive, fawn, burnt red and petrol blue.  Wear draped over shoulders for a tres chic look.  Or slip V-necks over an open-neck crisp white shirt. Crew necks look best worn over a classic, white crew neck T-shirt.  Make it look intentional.

Shirts:

Keep it crisp. Shirts are the staple to your add-ons so avoid wishy washy colours.  Think texture, thin stripe or fresh baby to mid blues and of course my favourite; white.  We’ve been sampling new, jersey, stretch shirts which are perfect for an impeccable fit and look great when layering.

Trousers:

Flannel trousers are a super sharp, chic addition for autumn/winter. Simple classics such as charcoal, navy and black make any wardrobe that bit more sumptuous.

Socks:

If you’ve been opting for a sock-free look this summer, now’s the time to bring them back. Go for fresh pops of colour in pure cotton or pure wool to keep your feet fresh, cool and comfortable.  Although wool might sound odd, it has the ability to both warm you up or cool you down. What’s not to like?

Shoes:

Replace slip-ons of the moccasin and loafer variety for elegant, streamline shoes in the fabulous, new “Rosewood” colour which gives a cheeky nod to the season while keeping you bang on trend.

Blazers:

If you’re not a full-on suit wearer, then you can’t beat a beautifully cut blazer in flannel, a plaid or a classic, navy. Colour is still big through autumn/winter. You’ll be seeing a lot more sumptuous fabrics too, ideal for layering with knitwear and shirts. For those in-between season days, mix and match weights of fabric but take it easy.  Teaming linen trousers with a heavy weight wool jacket would be taking it a step too far!

Pocket Squares:

A fabulous and easy way to add seasonal colour.  We’ve teamed up with Mr. Jenks to bring our customers a punchy palate from which to choose this season. If you’re afraid to fully commit to vibrancy then these are the ideal solution. From neutral tones, to linen to a real, strong silky colour, these are perfect to add to your blazer.

Jeans:

Make sure they’re dark indigo, smooth and sharp. Lighter jeans simply don’t work in the autumn. Slim fits cannot be beaten no matter what your body shape but avoid drain pipes and baggy fits. Add a beautifully tailored blazer to a pair of baggy jeans and the look is lost. Steer clear!

Haircut:

Longer styles are proving popular as we move into autumn, whilst beards are being shortened to more manageable lengths. Of course, it’s always important to have a cut that suits your face shape – but the style making a big comeback this season is the textured mod look. It’s a timeless classic with its cool, carefree vibe. For an edgy mod cut, ask your barber to use “texturising” methods including a straight edge razor.

Hair care:

Our Sea Salt Spray is our product of choice as we transition from summer to autumn. It’s perfect for a messy, undone look with subtle hold – especially on longer haircuts. To use, spray evenly onto mid-lengths and roots of towel-dried hair and work through to create texture and body. Blow-dry hair after application. To learn more go to:

Containing sweet almond and jojoba oils, renowned for their smoothing properties, it forms a protective barrier between skin and razor, ensuring a smoother glide, a closer shave and a more precise finish. To learn more go to:
