Waistcoats are making a big comeback. Whether worn with jeans or smart trousers, they can look really rather dapper. A particular favourite is the double breasted waistcoat, as sported by the super sharp David Gandy. He’s got impeccable style and people are taking some serious notes from his wardrobe.
Plain or textured suits with dove grey or plaid DB waistcoats add depth to a suit and are becoming ever more popular. With layering and contrasting being very ‘in’.
Follow our quick guide to styling a waistcoat:
1- If you’re slim wear a lighter colour inside a darker jacket to add volume and DB waistcoats are ideal for bulking up your top half. A textured blazer works really well for this too.
2- if you’re larger, it’s best to wear a dark jacket and a shade darker blazer and a flat colour, to create the illusion of slenderness.
3- Wear contrasting fabrics to create a less contrived look.
4- If you’re wanting a very dapper look, wear a single breasted jacket with a peak lapel and go to town on the accessories. Tie, pocket squares and magnetic collar stays. (My favourited Mens accessories.) separate blog post about that will be coming shortly…
